Hingham Softball Ready to Compete for Championship

By Greg Lane, Aug. 9th, 2020

With another year of experience under their belts and situated in a smaller, South Shore Summer Softball League, Hingham 12U has chance to be a dark horse candidate for a league title.

Hingham, which went 6-4 in the regular season, will begin with a playoff game in Canton on Monday.

“I think the playoffs are going to be tough.  There’s a lot of good teams,” said Head Coach Jay Commesso.  “We will win or learn, either way it’s going to be fun and enjoyable to watch.”

The 12U team has a little bit of experience with Siena Sullivan, Sienna Powers, Abrey Commesso, Ella Cignetti, Emma Doan, Maddie Pike, Kate Schulte, Billyana Wilkins, Lizzie Breen, Abby Mercer, Jane Melia, and Julia Schirmer on the roster.

“Our girls are really excited to play,” Commesso added.

The coach expects the team to compete for the championship. “I’m quite confident in them,” he said of his team. “Nearly every player from last year’s team returned.”

The summer season has certainly been unlike any other in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. “Especially with COVID, having thrown some hurdles in there way, they are all winners in my book,” declared Commesso.
