Plans are moving along for long-desired new athletic fields and outdoor courts across Hingham.

A public forum on the tentative plan is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, remote meeting via Website: https://zoom.us/join or Zoom Call: 929-205-6099, Meeting ID: 451 213 735.

The field study working group is hosting the community forums to get feedback on the draft plan.

The Hingham Sports Partnership is encouraging the community to participate in the meeting.

"The town-wide field and court study pursued this past year with CPC funding approved in 2019 was completed this summer and the report will be presented to the Selectmen, School Committee and Rec Commission this Tuesday at the Selectmen's meeting. Tune in, we appreciate it!"

The Community Preservation Committee approved a request for $60,000 or the study in 2019 and it was funded at the April 2019 annual town meeting by voters. The field study working group hired Weston and Sampson to undertake the study, including a comprehensive study of Hingham’s athletic fields and outdoor tennis and basketball courts.

The consultant's report analyzed existing conditions and the appropriateness of current fields and courts (based on location, size vs. regulation, neighborhood concerns, parking issues, regulatory issues, etc.). There are approximately 37 fields at 16 locations, 28 tennis courts at 6 locations, and 10 basketball courts at 7 locations in Hingham. It also completed a needs assessment process to identify and prioritize community needs for athletic fields and outdoor tennis and basketball courts.
