Hingham Superintendent of Schools Paul Austin will review the district's first COVID-19 health metrics report and discuss considerations for increased 'in-person' learning at a School Committee meeting tonight.

"We are monitoring metrics and we post the data on the school website," said Austin. Link to health metrics update.

In the first two weeks of October, the District reported thirteen positive COVID-19 cases. These cases contributed to the community is now being designated as a higher risk (red) community by the Executive Office of Health and Human Services (EOHHS).

A prolonged period in the “red” category could negatively impact the school district's ability to transition to the next phase of its reopening plan.

The district’s reopening plan was presented to the Hingham School Committee on Thursday, August 6, 2020, and over the objection of parents, they voted unanimously to support Superintendent Austin's phased-in, hybrid model.

Many parents expressed concern that the plan didn't include health metrics to guide the district's plan.

"We do not have specifics on " If this ...than that" metrics as this is fluid and all data must be analyzed carefully to determine its impact upon the district," explained Austin. "I have a Covid Response Team that includes school nurses, administration, the HEA, Hingham Board of Health and our school physician," explained Austin to review data and discuss if changes need to be made based upon the data."

With Hingham students back in the classroom since September 28th, parents say they're frustrated over not knowing what's next. Parents say not knowing is getting in the way of planning for child care if necessary.

An overview of the phased reentry, as well as a more specific review of key points from each phase included in the Hingham School District re-opening plan.

The School Committee is to receive a school re-opening update from Austin tonight which includes Review of Enrollment, Review of Health Metrics (9/16/20 -10/19/20), and Update on considerations for increased ‘in-person’ learning.
