There's not much time left to order 50 flags to be installed in your yard or at your place of business in time for the 4th of July! "Between online orders and ones we know will order, we're down to about 50 spots left," said Tom Hoffman. "What we are saying now is that this Sunday is the deadline to order or until supplies last."
A team of 50-60 volunteers will be going out on Saturday, June 27th and Sunday, June 28th to install more than 15,000 flags around town. Hingham High School athletes from field hockey, crew, track and football will be joining forces with SNAP summer mentors and members of the 6th grade football team to get the flags up. They will then go back out two weeks later to take them down on July 11th and 12th.
Thanks to the generosity of private donors, Tom and some other volunteers have already put flags up at Town Hall, all of the fire houses, the Commander Anderson House and the Pat Roche House as well as at the homes of seven undergraduates at service academies, Claire Schnorr who will be attending the Naval Academy on a rowing scholarship and LCpl Tim Moriarty who recently returned from a two-year tour of duty with the Marines.
Since there is no parade this year, the 4th of July Parade Committee will be putting the proceeds from the 50 Flags Campaign toward next year's parade and fireworks as well as COVID-19 relief efforts.
