Public Safety Facility Building Committee Could Recommend $5.475 Million Purchase & Sale Agreement Tonight

During tonight’s meeting the Public Safety Facility Building Committee will discuss it's recommendation to purchase a site for a new public safety facility building.
According to the town, the purchase price of $5,475,000 for the property has been agreed by the town and the landowner. According to the town, a real estate appraisal was obtained from Tyburski Appraisel Corporation dated February 3, 2020. The "as if vacant" property value has been appraise at $4,000,000.
The Town's architectural firm, Kaestle Boos Architects, is also expected to provide a preliminary cost estimate for project development through construction.
On Tuesday night, the Board of Selectmen announced plans to call a "Special Town Meeting" for Saturday, November 21, 2020 to be held outside at the Hingham High School. Hingham voters will be asked to spend approximately $5M.
The announcement caused some alarm in the community, prompting many questions about the potential risks related to the spread of COVID-19 as well as voter disenfranchisement holding a meeting close to Thanksgiving.
